Dear Jill,
I don't see why you have to be so mean to Mandy. I mean i know you think she is there to take your place but your mom is probably lonely since your dad died and you will be going off to college next year. She probably is adopting the baby from Mandy so that she won't be completely alone. You also haven't even known the girl for like a complete day yet and your already judging. You said and i quote "Not much going on upstairs. Her big ambition was to go to Pancake Universe" (Zarr, pg.65). You don't know what she's been through or how she even got pregnant. You should probably think about how she feels, she's the one the having the baby. She's the one that left her home and came to live with you and your mom. She is prpbably very nervous or scared. She states "though i'm not a nervous type of person, when i think about getting to Denver, i feel sick." (Zarr,pg.14). I think that you should cut her some slack and try to step into her shoes and allow her into yours. YOu don't even have to lether into your shoes but don't get mad when she's stating an opinion and you don't like, you say "I'm not trying to be a cynic." (Zarr,92). Then don't and try to understand that she has her issues too and that maybe you shouldn't be a tryant and be ebullient about the situation.
